Pretty Good
By Lindsay E
I did like the main character in the beginning. But then,to quote the author, he really "lost his edge." Kind of too mushy at times with the love stories between characters. Had me wondering if this was more romance than mystery. Lots of cliff hangers to the point of annoyance. Mid intense interview of suspect, whoops on to totally unrealated part of the story. Author never returns to finish intense interview. Cliff hanger. Annoying. Some things through out the book are too obvious to the reader but somehow the characters remain clueless even tho they hold all the pieces to the puzzle. Maddening to me because the characters are portrayed to be so intelligent but suddenly they are not. Villain is also very inconsistant in the last book. He goes from vicious killer to, well off character, so as not to spoil if you decide to read. My determination to see the series thru to the end for answers kept me reading (all three books) but I do not think I will be reading more from this author. Answers are not aquired until late in last book of series. Ending and loose ends are wrapped up solid with a nice happy bow and everything that was dark now sparkles as they clang their wine glasses together and salute the villain??? I like a darker ending I think. PS this is really just one book divided into three seperate purchases. Beware if you purchase the first you will be left hanging, then decide to read the second, still hanging, there will be no answers until you read all three.

Author is Rooted in Romance
By T Mc
This is the third and final book in a three book series involving one crime. Unfortunately, these books are written with a 'cliff hanger' that essentially manipulates the reader into having to acquire the subsequent books in the series. I do not like that type of coercion - especially for stories that are not that 'deep'. This series also reflects the author's romance roots. The relationship between the darkly handsome protagonist with the black curly hair and riveting blue eyes and the lead librarian who rips off her Foster Grant eyeglasses to become a drop dead siren that looks great in clothes when she goes commando......well you get the drift.....

"This book will make you cry, think, and then cry some more."
—Nicola Yoon, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Everything, Everything

When Griffin’s first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident, his universe implodes. Even though Theo had moved to California for college and started seeing Jackson, Griffin never doubted Theo would come back to him when the time was right. But now, the future he’s been imagining for himself has gone far off course.

To make things worse, the only person who truly understands his heartache is Jackson. But no matter how much they open up to each other, Griffin’s downward spiral continues. He’s losing himself in his obsessive compulsions and destructive choices, and the secrets he’s been keeping are tearing him apart.

If Griffin is ever to rebuild his future, he must first confront his history, every last heartbreaking piece in the puzzle of his life.

From School Library Journal
Gr 10 Up—No one understands what Griffin is going through after Theo, his ex and the love of his life, dies. No one, perhaps, except Theo's new boyfriend, Jackson. In a narrative that alternates between past and present, Silvera offers a gem of a story about first love and great loss. Griffin's voice is strong and affecting, and as readers come to know Theo's history and the depth of Griffin's love, the loss becomes more and more poignant. Griffin has obsessive-compulsive disorder, and while his illness is a sensitively portrayed and central part of his life, it is not the defining theme of the novel: his grief and loss are the focus. Griffin's transformation as he moves from resentment and rage at Jackson to compassion and connection is profound to witness. But perhaps most memorable is the protagonist's slow, dawning realization of Theo's deep imperfections. It is so easy to idolize a first love, and even easier to idolize someone who has died. Griffin's gradual awareness of Theo's flaws is the true heart of this standout title. VERDICT With a cast of beautifully realized characters, a powerful narrative voice, and genuine portrayals of complex teen situations, this work is a must-have.—L. —EntertainmentWeekly.com

"A complex, touching valentine to love and friendship . . . [Silvera] gets the small details of love and loss exactly right. These moments are framed in exquisite prose . . . In this emotionally charged story, Griffin’s desire to be honest with himself and others leads the reader to a greater understanding of how it feels to have a conflicted heart."
—The Washington Post

"Through Griffin, Silvera presents an eloquent, in-depth examination of 'whatever comes next,' of the ways in which the grieving process both isolates people and draws them together."
—Chicago Tribune

"History Is All You Left Me overflows with tenderness and heartache. Even when its hero is screwing up royally, maybe especially then, Silvera's humanity and compassion carve out a space where it's not the falling that's important, it's how you pick yourself back up. There isn't a teenager alive who won't find their heart described perfectly on these pages."
—Patrick Ness, New York Times bestselling author of The Rest of Us Just Live Here and A Monster Calls

"Sweetly devastating, passionately honest, and breathtakingly human. Only Adam Silvera could have written this story."

—Bookpage

"Silvera packs a powerful emotional punch in this multilayered story told partly in flashbacks by Griffin, who's mourning the sudden death of his best friend and first love . . . The conversational yet profound tone of the book highlights the author's ear for the musicality of language and his ability to convey deep emotion through attention to its cadence and flow. A novel to savor long after it ends."
—Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review

"Though Griffin’s vision is clouded by grief, passion, and guilt, readers will have no trouble understanding how unmoored Griffin has become: Silvera excels at capturing the confusion and pain he feels . . . Griffin has much to puzzle out as he tries to move forward, but he does so with the reassurance that real love exists."
—Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

"Silvera offers a gem of a story about first love and great loss . . . Profound . . . It is so easy to idolize a first love, and even easier to idolize someone who has died. Griffin’s gradual awareness of Theo’s flaws is the true heart of this standout title."

—Angela Frederick, librarian, YALSA member, and 2015 Printz Committee member

“Masterful . . . Griffin, Theo, Jackson, and Wade will stay with teen readers for a long time because they are so achingly real. YA readers need these characters and all of their edges, their mistakes, their losses and, yes, their joy. This is a complicated, nuanced, elegantly crafted work. It’s a book that’s going be a lifeline for teens, an out-stretched hand that assures them they are not alone and their story will go on. This is a book beyond compare.”
—Angie Manfredi, Head of Youth Services for the Los Alamos County Library System and 2016–2017 Stonewall Book Award Committee member

"Adam Silvera is wrenchingly good at writing about grief . . .History Is All You Left Me quietly shows how dealing with loss will help Griffin see himself and his world more clearly. It's a painful coming of age, but a beautifully written and very satisfying one."
—ShelfAwareness, Starred Review

"Silvera’s prose is raw and lyrical, a good fit for Griffin’s intensity, and the minutiae of both romance and grief are closely observed and deeply felt . . . Griffin himself is an indelible character who will linger in readers’ sympathies after the last page isturned."
—The Horn Book Magazine

"Silvera finds a depth in Griffin’s story that is remarkable . . . One of the best young authors dealing with issues like sexuality, depression, mental health, and the complex and often confusing relationship rules of Millennials and younger generations. He may be categorized as YA, but Silvera is a writer well worth reading no matter your age."
—About.com

"Grief is strong and realistically portrayed in this tale of relationships and love."
—School Library Connection

“Silvera’s singularly authentic voice is back in force in his second novel. Like The Fault in Our Stars, here is a book that explores grief and vulnerability with honesty, without talking down to the reader. The nuanced, complex characters nearly walk off the page, and the compulsively readable story and artfully chosen details make this a book worth getting lost in!”
—Shay McClean, Children’s Buyer at Third Street Books

“In this authentic and charged sophomore novel, Silvera presents a narrator whose grief is nearly tangible. As Griffin revisits his path with Theo—best friend, ex-boyfriend, and love of his life—he discovers that their history is much more than a neat and tidy linear
line. Once again, Silvera gifts readers with an emotional wrecking ball of a novel, leaving them stronger for the experience.”
—Sara Grochowski, Children’s/YA Buyer at Brilliant Books

History is All You Left Me Will Leave You Utterly Wrecked…But In a Good Way
By YAandWine
I am a huge fan of YA contemporaries that make me feel something, and Adam Silvera certainly never lets me down in that department. His latest novel, History is All You Left Me, (out January 17th!) is no exception.

My Review: FIVE STARS
It’s obvious just from reading the description that this book is going to be a tearjerker. What I didn’t expect though, was the intense rollercoaster of other emotions that I experienced while reading it. Suffice it to say, this book will give you ALL THE FEELS and then some.

Silvera vacillates brilliantly between Griffin’s grief-stricken journey after his ex-boyfriend Theo dies and the history of their past together. You get to fall in love right along side them, you’ll laugh through all their silly moments, and you will MOST DEFINITELY cry. Theo’s death will of course bring you to tears, but there are other moments in this story that pack just as big of an emotional punch. Keep those tissues close!

This book is brilliantly plotted and an absolute joy to read. This is definitely my new favorite YA contemporary, and I wish everyone in the world could be required to read it. We’d all be better people for it.

Cover Rating : THREE STARS
While I love the way this cover reflects the contrast in both the past and present perspectives in this story as well as the inverse emotions that Griffin feels at different points in the plot, it’s just not the prettiest cover ever.

Swoon Worthiness: FIVE STARS
The guys in this story are just absolutely ADORABLE. I love all of them: Griffin, Theo, Jackson, and Wade. They are all such fantastic and REAL characters. They all have their flaws, but they’re flawed in ways they make them so much more relatable. Silvera has sprinkled just the BEST swoon worthy moments throughout this entire story, which definitely balances out the heavier emotional moments.

Why You Should Read This Book:
This book is BREATHTAKING. It includes great representation of both diversity and mental health issues, which is so, so, SO important for young readers and adults alike to experience.
Silvera has managed to not only deliver a story with an entertaining plot but also what could best be described as an emotional roundhouse to a reader’s gut. And I do mean that in the best way possible.
If you are looking for a book that will give you Every. Single. Feel. Ever…then this is most definitely a book you’ll want to put at the top of your 2017 TBR pile.

Adam Silvera blew me away!
By Ashley Elliott
Oh my gosh this book made me cry my eyes out. I loved it and I cried. So, it has a P.S. I Love You feel, more so the movie than the book. It is about a 17 year old boy named Griffin who is a senior year in high school who just lost his ex boyfriend and the love of his life. Theo was his first boyfriend and meant everything to Griffin, but they had broken up and Theo was living in California going to college and had even met someone new, Jackson, who is now the only person who really understands Griffin. The story is between the times with flashbacks to Griffin and Theo's relationship from the beginning to the end, with Griffin dealing with grief telling the story. I loved that Griffin wasn't perfect. He was actually very flawed in his OCD, emotional instability, and refusal to open up to anyone. I can't imagine what going through that kind of lose would cause but OCD is very real and so many people just use it as a punch line. This felt more real and I know from the author it is real. He has talked about dealing with these obsessions himself, and I have real empathy for that. I had a complaint with Silvera's last book that it crapped on LGBTQ+ people, I know in real life prejudice is a hard thing to deal with and I am not gay but I didn't like reading it. I don't know if I am allowed to have that opinion but whatever. This one though I loved so much because they got to have a good relationship without insane amount of hate. The parents cared and treated them good, the friends were accepting, I enjoyed not having to read pages of hating for LGBTQ+ people. This is an emotional story. It is about loss, like death loss and that isn't something easy to go through, ever. It was heartbreaking, and sometimes just plain hard to read. It is also one of the best books I have gotten to read though.

Oh Adam Silvera how come you like to break my heart so much
By J. Arkin
Oh Adam Silvera how come you like to break my heart so much?

Silvera is such an amazing storyteller and it shines through in this story. Yes, as mentioned above, this story is heartbreaking, but it’s also so beautifully hopeful by the time you get to that last page. His portrayal of grieving for a loved one makes this incredibly emotional and you can’t help but feel for Griffin and the things he’s trying to sort out in his head.

The story itself is told non-linearly and it’s done so, so well. The present pieces weave seamlessly into the past pieces and you will have feelings about everyone and everything as you turn the pages.

History Is All You Left Me is truly about so much more than dealing with loss though… it’s about coming to terms with your life not ultimately being what you thought it would be, losing your best friend, dealing with your inner demons and taking control of your life and Silvera explores these in such an incredible way.

I think what I loved most about this though, is that Adam’s characters are so real… like, no holds barred, you get the good, the bad, and the ugly and he doesn’t sugar coat much of anything. Griffin at times will frustrate you, and sadden you, but above all you’ll want good things for him and you’ll want him to figure out what he really needs, not what he thinks he needs. I’m going to be honest here and tell you that I had really strong feelings about both Theo and Jackson while I read this, and my heart broke repeatedly for what Griffin was forced to face.

Ugh – I feel like I’m selling this as a hugely depressing book, but it truly isn’t… Adam is amazing at finding the humor in things that you might not expect there to be any. He manages to yes, break your heart into pieces, but he also manages to piece you back together with laughter like no other.

If you’re looking for an amazing coming-of-age story with characters and a story that will resonate with you, then look no further. History Is All You Left Me will be shelved among my all-time favorite books and you definitely will want to grab this asap.

About the Author

Fred Lutgens and Ed Tarbuck have been good friends and colleagues since 1970.  Between them, they have more than 57 years of experience teaching geology to undergraduates, and both have been recognized with awards as excellent and inspiring professors.  They share a special interest in introducing geology to beginning students and a belief in the value of field experiences for students of all levels.

Lutgens and Tarbuck published their first college text, Earth Science, in 1976.  That book, winner of the McGuffy Award from the Text and Academic Authors Association, is now going into its tenth edition.  In 1983, as the first edition of Earth was being prepared, gifted geology illustrator Dennis Tasa joined the author team.  Since then the three have collaborated on more than twenty projects.  Not only do Tarbuck, Lutgens, and Tasa work well together creatively; they also enjoy spending time in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Tasa’s New Mexico studio.

Tarbuck enjoys downhill skiing in Colorado, fly fishing near his childhood home in Northern Minnesota, and spending time in the Cascades.  Lutgens is an avid runner, and when he can make the time, truly enjoys hiking the canyons of the Colorado Plateau.  Although Lutgens and Tarbuck think alike on many issues, they don’t agree on everything.  Lutgens is devoted to jazz and classical music, whereas Tarbuck prefers pop artists or a good country station.

Good Stuff
By Bryon Bean
I would say that the majority of text books out there are difficult to get through. Clearly that makes it difficult to complete all of the required readings for one's classes. Here is how I know that this book is different: until I started reading it I had no idea that I was interested in Geology. I've really enjoy reading this book and find its content fascinating. I actually look forward to the required reading assignments and have read a chapter that was not in my required reading. That never happens. Consider yourself lucky if this is your Geology textbook.

This is an excellent geology book
By pauline crowling
This is an excellent geology book. It is exceptionally easy to read and understand. The pictures are wonderful, and a slide show of all the pictures is included for teachers to use. I use every one in my Geology class. The explanation of radioactive dating is so good, that I completely understood it myself for the first time and I have been teaching AP Chemistry for 25 years.

Great book!
By AngelLeah
I love this textbook! I haven't taken a science class in 20 years and this has been a great book. The pictures are great examples and you can even scan the code to watch videos explaining what you are learning. The virtual field trips are great too. I would highly recommend using this if you are a teacher of Geology.

The Three Laws of International Investment: National, Contractual, and International Frameworks for Foreign Capital, by Jeswald W. Salacus

International investments are governed by three different legal frameworks: 1) national laws of both the host country and the investor's home country; 2) contracts, whether between the investor and the host country or among investors and their associates; and 3) international law, consisting of applicable treaties, customs, and general principles of law. Together, these three frameworks profoundly influence the organization, operation, and protection of foreign investments. Investors, government officials, and their legal counsel must therefore understand the complex interaction among these frameworks and how best to employ them to advance their interests.

This book examines the content of each of these three legal frameworks for international investment and explores how they influence the foreign investment process and the nature of investment transactions, projects, and enterprises. The book is divided into five parts. Part I, after explaining the contemporary nature and significance of international investment, examines the theoretical and practical links between law and the investment process. Part II explores the nature of national laws regulating foreign investment. Part III considers of the various contractual frameworks for international investments, looking at their negotiation, content, and stability. Part IV sets out the international legal framework governing foreign investment, focusing on the content and nature of investment treaties and on general principles. Finally, Part V discusses how the three legal frameworks interact with each other. By comprehensively examining each of the applicable legal frameworks, this book provides a vital overview of the laws, rules, and regulations governing foreign investment for lawyers, scholars, students, and government officials.

With those unanswered questions heavy on their minds, the Cavies fly to Saint Petersburg, Russia to do their part.

What they find there is a complication they never expected, in the form of people they never guessed existed…even though one of them is a trusted friend.

JUST GETS BETTER!!!!
By Jamie E. Davis
***I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review***

Holy cow, what an AWESOME continuation!

Trisha Leigh NAILED it with Alliance, book two in the Cavy Files. I'm still reeling from the book's climax, and I'm already anxious to find out what happens next as Gypsy and the other Cavies attempt to regroup and formulate a plan. Each new person, each new destination, brings yet more uncertainty for them as they struggle to ascertain who they can trust and where they can be safe. Unfortunately, every change brings more questions, and they seem to be faced with more enemies than allies. No matter who tries to recruit them, reality is everyone wants more than they are willing to give.

Norah's struggle with her self-worth is heart-wrenching as she works to see her value within the group. As much as she longs for the life of a "normal" teenage girl, she knows her Cavy family truly needs her regardless of her feelings of being helpless and useless. Her abilities, along with the other Cavies', are enhancing as the GRH-18 expands and stretches their abilities.

The frustration they endure through the entire story is summed up by this quote: "The bottom line is that we’re staring at a bunch of crappy choices." No matter which direction they turn, someone or something must be sacrificed. Who or what will it be as they race to find answers about the deadly computer virus that could wipe out millions?

Trisha Leigh has a gift for creating characters you want to know. Whether it's this story, or another, you'll turn the last page feeling invested in the characters and their struggles. The seamless way she transitions from book one to this one keeps the story flowing and brings the first flooding back as though you finished reading yesterday. Keep writing, Trisha!

Well worth the wait!
By I Feel the Need, the Need to Read book blog
This series is so addicting. These misfit teens with their unique abilities cause drama, suspense, mystery, and intrigue. Questions get answered in this installment but many more are uncovered. Trisha is very adept at writing about teen angst and love. She seems to know how their minds work, which is a great feat in that no one seems to know what teens think these days. Even though it is a YA novel, it is actually filled with mature teens that have to deal with very grown up type of situations such as which group of people want to kill them the least. Highly recommend this series.

The Cortexiphan Kids! That's who they are!!
By Angela Bonnie Shockley
So far I have loved everything Trisha Leigh has written and Alliance is no different! After the ending of Gypsy, I needed its sequel in a BIG way. From start to finish this second installment kept me guessing, surprised me, and broke my heart.

There's not too much I can say without giving everything away. I loved the growth of Norah (Gypsy). I understand her draw to Jude, but the little lady just needs to realize that Shiloh (Mole) is the guy for her! I detest love triangles, but I'll let her make her own decision. There. That's where I stand.

Now I found the struggle between the Olders (agh, I keep wanting to say Others... difference TL series!) and the CIA to be particularly interesting. Yes there's a divide, but I'm STILL not sure which side I actually trust! The CIA had me at my wits end by the time I finished the book. I'll save my judgement for them until I re-read Alliance after it is released.

The Siphons? CREEPY! That’s all I’ll say about them.

And now the ending. It’s kind of a non-ending transition. Clearly there will be a third installment. I need it now. :)

I also love that this story takes place in my home state of South Carolina! That makes me a little biased, lol! ;)

*****Five stars from this happy reader!*****

This review is based on an ARC I received to review, but I purchased it anyway because I support the authors I read!
