About the Author
Nicole Johns received her MFA from the University of Minnesota and a BA in English from Penn State University-Erie. Her eating disorder developed in high school and worsened in college. The summer after starting the MFA program, Nicole spent three months in treatment for her eating disorder. Nicole currently lives in Minneapolis with her fiancé, Brady Johnson. She has been in recovery from her eating disorder since 2005.

Very accurate.

Outstanding view of what it's like to be in eating disorder treatment. Nothing is sugar coated, or glossed over. There is a clear statement that eating disorder treatment isn't an event. It doesn't happen simply from showing up to a treatment center. It takes work, and there is no smooth sailing in a constant upward trajectory during treatment. I've been an RN in a drug/alcohol treatment center, as well as an ED patient. This is probably the best account of recovery from the point of treatment center entry that I've seen... I have more than 100 books on EDs (professional, self-help, memoirs, and fiction). This one stands out.

Interesting. Not well written. A little immature.

The book is just okay. A little immature at times. It was interesting to read about the struggle with ednos from another bisexual girl in her 20's. That was the main reason I bought it. It was informative to learn about the some treatment techniques that were used in her inpatient stay. The writing itself was super cringey though that's why I gave it 2 stars.

Insight into the secret EDNOS life...

Anyone suffering, or knows someone suffering, from an eating disorder might enjoy this book. I'm about halfway through it myself now and have enjoyed reading the shared struggle of a professional, adult woman, not much different from myself, as she journies through her attempts at recovery. It is less "triggering" than some diaries can be but certainly still has it's moments. It's a good book though and offers some insight into the EDNOS illness/disorder....

Perfect for my almost kindergartener

I purchased this for my four year old and he loves it! Sixty pages of fun and every page is engaging in its own way. I love that they added a chart in the back where he can add a sticker each time he completes a page and watch the progress (it comes with gold stars to add to the pages as he completes them). Overall, a perfect learning book for the little one, and the size is not overwhelming for him.

Best phonics book to step in to world of word and sentences :)

After Roger Priddy workbooks We became fan of Carson-Dellosa books. It's amazing. To teach a child how to read or spell, first you have to make sure he/she knows how each letter sounds, then only he can spell or read a word..gradually sentences perfectly. We searched for a phonics book and this book we found quite interesting and we were 100% right choosing this book for our 3.5 yr old kiddo.

The best features-
It's a 60 educational practice page book.In each page there are some pictures given where you have to name the picture and then circle the picture that begins with a specific letter sound.Sometimes you have to join the same first letter pictures with lines. Working on the pages is fun and really enjoyable.Besides fun , this workbook is educational in true sense, as my kid now confidently tells the each letter of a word just hearing the sound of each letter of a word.There are scopes for tracing letters also which is quite good, it also encourages writing letters in this way.
This book also emphasizes on words with short vowels a,e,i,o,u..The child can learn vowels as well as its sound.
The most rewarding part is gold star pages.. where from your child can get a gold star sticker and stick it on the page as soon as he/she completes it perfectly.

My kid enjoys learning with this book and she loves her lesson with it.
I will say, this book is the first and most valuable step toward learning how to spell or read.

repetitive activities that improve basic vocabulary and spelling skills...

I bought this book for my 4 years old son, who is very interested in alphabet activities. In the daycare, they do a lot of similar exercises and at home he wants to practice some more. For that purpose, this is a really good book. It starts from A and goes through all letters of alphabet.

For each letter there are 2 pages of activities: one requires the child to find all the objects that start with that letter among a group of objects and the other one finding the only object in a group of three that begins with that letter.

After every 10 pages or so there is a general activity page where small pictures are accompanied with three letters and the kid is required to find the correct letter that the object in the picture starts with. These pages cover all the letters up to that point.

The last pages, after all the letters are covered, are another group of activities which require finding the middle missing letter or recognizing the whole word among similar ones. This require more skill than the first set of activities and therefore a kindergarten student would do it better.

The pictures are repeated a few times for different activities and this ensures the child to build some new vocabulary. For example my son did not know the word 'can' as in canned food and after I told him and he came across a few more times he was easily noticing it. The pictures are mostly clear and easy to recognize. There are some ambiguities but those are really limited.

Finally the book offers 140 stickers and a completion chart. The idea is that for each activity a sticker needs to be put on the corresponding page number on that chart. Good luck if you manage to get them used that way. My son had already sticked half the stickers randomly by the time I first handled the book, kids just don't stop when they handle stickers :)

In conclusion, this is a really useful basic practice book. Perhaps it might have offered a wider range of activities but there is no harm being plain and simple as well. I liked the book and my son spends a good amount of time with it. For less than $4 it is a real bargain

just average reference book.

the author does not elaborate more about certain key points when he/she actually needs but talk too much when certain points are very intuitive and easy.

As a graduate student who is currently taking a course whose reference book is this one, I feel this is just an average book. Ones still need to go online to search for more elaboration and explanations from time to time.

Hot and steamy but with a story

Loved this book! Who wouldn't want to be saved by a sexy man on a mountain and two is even better!
Its not just all about the sex scenes although they are very hot! The author, Parker Grey, tells us about Rose's story and how she finds herself stranded on the mountain and found by two mountain men. Would like to have had a bit more story about Logan and Knox but I'm still giving the book 5 stars. The book kept me interested and so did the included bonus book. Definitely worth reading!

This was an intriguing introduction to this author. The blurb was very nicely written and sucked me in right away. I liked the cover art but the description was definitely the hook.

The premise of the heroine being rescued has been overdone. However, this was a new take on an old favorite. The two heroes are very male, gruff and protective. It's a nice setup. I wont give anything away but they are very endearing and sweet from start.

The story proceeds very nicely, at an unrushed pace for the most part. It's only the last 10 percent of the book that feels rushed. Maybe that was just my take on it but....

The only reason this isn't a 5 star book IMO is the writing during the sex scenes is a bit juvenile. The descriptions seems more like a teen or young adult talking than these two very experienced men. It was distracting just enough to pull me from the story.

Otherwise this was a short fast read with few to no technical errors, glitches or gaping holes in plot. I can easily recommend it.

About the Author

Davis Chapman first began programming computers while working on his Masters Degree in Music Composition. While writing applications for computer music, he discovered that he enjoyed designing and developing computer software. It wasn't long before he came to the realization that he stood a much better chance of eating if he stuck with his new-found skill and demoted his hard-earned status as a "starving artist" to a part-time hobby. Since that time, Davis has focused on the art of software design and development, with a strong emphasis on the practical application of Client/Server and Web/Internet technologies. The First Impression.

For $30, it is almost alright. I would have given it four stars had the paper been not too thin - it's so thin that the text on the next page continues to hinder with your reading - and had the quality of images been slightly better. What must be added is that it is not an utter disappointment in terms of print quality and layout.

I would add to this once I have gone through the material, but as that is going to take time because of current undertakings, hence, for the time being then, just the first impressions.

Re-hash of VC++ 6 version

IT appears that the they just updated the prior version of this book, which was not great either. The same useless "scribble" program raises it's head again, something that very few of us will ever need to develop for our work. Then you get to the database section and they use ADO. It seems useless to use ADO in the C++ world, clearly if you are using C++ it is assumed you are going for performance and would use OLEDB directly, not adding the extra layer of ADO with all of its variant data types being passed around.

I am just a college student and have no experience on Windows program before, but I only know C++. If you are just like me, starting VC with this book will make your life much easier. If you are a professional, use something more advance. This is book is just for beginner with C++ background. If you don't know about C++, don't use it because it won't teach you C++ on this book.

And the Dune series comes to a train wreck ending.

First let me just say as I always do with these reviews, I like some of Brian’s and Kevin’s books about Dune. Butlerian Jihad, Machine Crusade, House Atreides, House Corrino, and House Harkonnen are all amazing books that get dismissed too quickly.

That said, the last 3 books, Sisterhood of Dune, Mentats of Dune, and now this monstrosity Navigators of Dune are all utter crap. My guess is that Brian and Kevin spent way too much time writing their other books instead of focusing on the last few Dune books. Here are just a few of the things wrong with this last book. Spoilers are coming.

- They spent the last 3 books doing what I call filler. They constantly, and I mean constantly re-hash what has previously happened. 40% of this book is just them re-hashing everything in the previous book/books ad nausea. Yes, we are all aware what just happened in the book 5 chapters ago, YOU JUST WROTE IT. Utterly lazing writing.

- There is ZERO character development in the third book. NOTHING!

- Vorian Atreides. Clearly the most important protagonist of the last several books and they end his story with him limping away in disgrace. Something an Atreides would never do. What in the seven hells possessed them to utterly ruin this character?

- Venport. For the universe's most successful, smartest businessman they wrote him laughably bad. Mistake, after mistake, after mistake. A man who trapped the entire known universe in a complicated web of commerce wouldn't have made half the mistakes he made.

- Draigo Roget. A mentat, who offered very little in terms of advice for Venport. All defensive thinking, no offensive thinking, no multiple moves ahead as a REAL mentat would do. Did Kevin/Brian forget what the heck a mentat was?

- Norma Cenva. Besides Vorian, this character breakdown hurt the most. Norma's character development in the previous books was wonderful. An imperfect girl who becomes a beautiful women under the vicious torture of a cymek. A woman who becomes the most advanced human being ever known, maybe even more than a Kwisatz Haderach. A women who valued her family over everything. They take that character and reduce her to a handful of lines, all simple navigator speak. No depth and too boot, she abandons Venport. What a waste.

Nothing Great

If you enjoy the Dune books after Frank Herbert passed, then this is more for you to read. It is not great literature and the characters have little to no depth, personality or growth. But I do kind of enjoy the world and finding out what happens in it.

Even so, there were multiple times I really wished sandworms would eat everyone in the cast. Everyone. Valya is a horror, Vor never learns, Roderick/Josef/Manford are extremists and on and on. Sandworms could have had them all and I would have been ok with it.

A decent enough wrap up

I know the Brian Herbert books have drawn a lot of heat from the purists out there, and to be honest I understand where they're coming from. However I did my best to view them as they are; supplements meant to further flesh out a universe we've all grown to love.

The problem with prequels; and why I've come to realize I intensely dislike them; is that you've already finished the story in your mind. You've already connected the dots and are just kinda going through the motions. You look and say "well that character isn't in the original. They've've got to die somehow. " I've found this hurts the story, and I've seen that happen a lot with the Star Wars movies. This story is no different. You know some things have to wrap up in some cases but not completely in others.

As for the characters that were written off, I'd say it was satisfying enough. Manford's fate was...eh, if you can overlook the fact that you've read it before, you shouldn't be too disappointed. The clash between Venport and Roderick seemed to reach epic proportions of ludicrous. It's really hard to believe two people could have this many misunderstandings this many times, especially with a Truth sayer present. I found the resolution to be bizarre to say the least. It seemed they were both favorite characters the authors simply didn't want to part with.

The feud between Vorian and Valya was especially tricky. The authors were tasked with putting a close on problem that would somehow have to last for the eight or so millenia? I knew that would be a stretch and their solution was about what I'd expected.

Now for Erasmus. Sigh it's been quite a journey for me with this character. From the moment he stabbed that cook to death til now I've nursed a particular dislike for this character. I've hated him at sometimes and others, I've simply grit my teeth at him. I can't say I loathed him the way I did Manford, but he definitely stood out as the villian you'd have to endure. I wasn't particularly on board when they tried to bring out his "humanity" through Gilbertus but I went along with it as well as I could.

Well they finally bring his character to a close, and I think it's a bit too soon to say how I feel about it. Did he deserve more? Did he deserve less? I'm not really sure. In terms of comparison his end reminded me more of Agamemnon's than Ajax. You'll have to decide for yourself. I know I would have been furious if they would have eked out another survival for him though.

I know it sounds like I'm being critical but I'm just trying to be subjective. I love this universe and the characters in it. I don't think I'll ever be "done" with Dune. While I acknowledge Brian and Kevin made choices that Frank probably never would, I appreciate their attempts to keep these characters alive. I respect their right to tell their story their way. I for one know for a fact The Force Awakens would have been vastly different if Lucas had directed that one as well. If you're hyper critical of these novels, please try to keep that in mind.

I would recommend this book. It completes the prequel series well enough. One shouldn't be disappointed too much.
