A jolly good read

Lottie Parker is grieving the loss of her husband to cancer. She has three teenagers at home she's trying to raise alone. Lottie's relationship with her mother is sour, and she's battling alcohol addiction as well as teetering on the brink of a breakdown. As if she didn't have enough on her plate, Lead Detective Lottie Parker's life just got a lot more complicated when a string of murders in a matter of days tests her resolve as a detective. And what does that old abandoned, yet foreboding, former children's home have to do with a woman strangled in a Catholic Church, a man found hanging from a tree in his own yard, and the town's hot shots' plans to turn St. Angela's into a resort hotel complete with eighteen hole golf course? Read on to find out! I'm very good at figuring out "whodunit" but this book had me guessing to the very end! I loved it. You will too.

If you're looking for a story that has an unlikeable lead character, horrific and numerous descriptions of pedophilia, mental and physical torture exacted on children, kidnapping, child abandonment, a LOT of murders and several more near deaths, AND it's all laid at the feet of the Catholic Church then this might book for you. I found the writing competent but the subject matter too twisted, dark, cliched and frankly nauseating to enjoy. It's disturbing that so many 5 star reviews were given to this gruesome mess of a novel.

A strong first book

I just finished the missing one's by patricia Gibney. It was a real page turner. I, had to stop about 3/4 of the way through to go to work. Couldn't wait to get home and finish it. I am looking forward to the next book. Hope I don't have to wait to long.
